The developer of the crypto-currency bitcoin says it’s about time to do a few things to make the currency more attractive to people.
Speaking with The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday, Gavin Andresen said he hopes to have a version of bitcoin that people can use within three to five years.
“There’s no point in waiting for the market to develop, which will take 20 years, to create a new coin,” he said.
Andresen is one of many who have raised money for the cryptocurrency.
The digital currency has a market cap of $18 billion, and Andresens hopes that with a more stable market, the cryptocurrency will continue to grow.
“If the value of a coin continues to grow, then people will eventually buy in,” he told the Journal.
The creator of Bitcoin also said he’d like to have one-way payments for goods and services.
And he wants people to use the coin for everything from shopping to entertainment to business.
“I’m not saying there’s no way to use it in this way.
But I think there’s a need to find a way to have these things,” he added.
And more than 1.4 billion people use bitcoin and it’s one of the most popular cryptocurrencies around.
